Kira Ford is introduced as a singer and one of three detention students assigned to paleontology professor Tommy Oliver in Reefside, California. Along with Conner McKnight and Ethan James, she discovers a Dino Gem that bonds with her, granting her the powers of the Pterazord and the ability to produce sonic screams. As the Yellow Dino Ranger, Kira uses her sonic scream ability both in combat and to solve problems, often finding creative applications for her power. Throughout the series, she works alongside Tommy (the Black Dino Ranger), Conner (the Red Dino Ranger), Ethan (the Blue Dino Ranger), and later Trent (the White Dino Ranger) to oppose Mesogog, an evil dinosauric who wishes to eradicate all human life. Near the end of the series, Trent is corrupted by the White Dino Gem, and the Rangers voluntarily combine their powers to destroy Mesogog in a single last-resort attack, which burns out the Dino Gems in the process.

In Their Own Story

Kira Ford's story begins when she is assigned detention with Tommy Oliver, a paleontology professor and former Power Ranger. While on a field trip, she and the other detention students find Dino Gems that bond with them, transforming them into the Dino Thunder Power Rangers. Kira gains the powers of the Pterazord and sonic screams as the Yellow Dino Ranger. Throughout the series, she develops her abilities and works with her team to stop Mesogog and his henchmen Elsa, Zeltrax, and their army of Tyrannodrones and Tiptoids. Later, they are joined by Trent Fernandez-Mercer, who becomes the White Dino Ranger after discovering a White Dino Gem in Mesogog's lab. Near the end of the series, when Mesogog tricks Trent into handing over the Dino Gems in exchange for his father's freedom, the Rangers sacrifice their zords and use their raw Dino Gem Powers combined into a single last-resort attack to destroy Mesogog, which burns out the gems in the process.
